Miscellaneous March

I have taken 10 pictures over the past 2 weeks. I'm scrapping the bottom of the pan here to get a post out of it. I think it's the time of year-lots of people aren't updating that much. So here goes one very basic, random post.

One day we had mac and cheese. Renae ate some.
One macaroni ended up on her face. So I took a picture.

The cheese face is given on command now.

See?

"OK Mom, I performed for you. Now what?"

Switching randomness . . . in college, I was an RA on a co-ed international floor. One of the residents was from Spain! I was already in love with all things Spanish then so I became fast friends with Rafa. We met in the fall of 2002, and said good-bye in the Spring of 2003. Six years later . . . we are living in Madrid and so is he! So we were finally able to have him over for supper last night where I made an all Iowa meal which he loved. For dessert, I made chocolate chip cookies and he gave me the biggest hug because he loved those when he was in Iowa.

Rafa and I enjoying our American snack, complete with cold milk.

I also showed him my American food pantry which consists of:
  • About 15 different cake and brownie mixes
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Shortening
  • Ranch dressing packets
  • Italian dressing packets
  • Chocholate chips-LOTS of those . .
  • Brown sugar
  • French fried onions
  • Canned green chiles from Sams (for my chicken tortilla casserole!)
  • marshmallows
  • Cheerios
  • Sweet Baby Ray's Bar-b-que sauce (THE BEST!)
  • PEANUT BUTTER!!!!

Some of the things listed above we CAN find here . . . but it's in a random store far away, it's expensive, or it just doesn't taste the same. For example. I can get brown sugar, but it's in large granules. I can get "shortening" but it's really just bacon grease. I have attempted to make my own bar-b-que sauce-it was gross. I make my own syrup, enchilada sauce, teriyaki sauce and a few other things. But I make good use of my American food pantry. :)

Awww, I can't WAIT till you come home and I can see that cheese face (with or without the macaroni) in person!
And how cool that you got to meet up with an old friend! It really is a small world after all! ;-)
I love you!

Can't wait to see you guys! Tim and I were discussing last night what we will do to make sure that we are now the favorite "aunt" and uncle!! We're thinking slipping Renae LOTS of candy is the best way to go! =P
Julie Ann...we were also discussing you and your lack of posting! I'm going to take lots of pics of the girls this weekend, so I will try to post them!
